Republican U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker of West Lampeter Township was sworn into office Tuesday as a member of the 115th Congress. He is just the fourth person in the last half-century to represent the 16th Congressional District, which covers most of Lancaster County, as well as parts of Chester and Berks counties. He succeeds Congressman Joe Pitts. Smucker spent eight years in Harrisburg as a state senator.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) today released the following statement on his swearing in as a member of the 115th Congress:
"It is a deep privilege and an honor to be chosen to serve the people of Pennsylvania's 16 th Congressional District. There is a lot of work ahead, but with a commitment to doing what is best for the families in our district, I know we can make real and lasting progress.
"Additionally, I will support the rules package as a whole. It provides for meaningful healthcare reform, protecting social security, and allows us to move forward on simplifying our tax code to create more jobs and grow our economy."
