More on Congress
Lancaster, Pa. – Building upon his longstanding record of working across the aisle to get things done, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is adding his conservative voice to the Problem Solvers Caucus to work in a bipartisan manner to help find solutions to our nation's most pressing issues.

The federal budget process is broken. I've only been in Congress four months and that's clear to me. Since 2010, Congress has passed 31 continuing resolutions to keep the federal government open. Only three fiscal years since 1955 have not produced a continuing resolution. The institution has been governing by crisis for far too long. The most recent omnibus was more than 1,600 pages and only funds the government for five months (and is seven months late). I was sent to Congress not to prop up the failed status quo, but to help end it.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is working across the aisle to help bring attention and find solutions to combat human trafficking. Rep. Smucker has cosponsored two bipartisan bills to help fight online sex trafficking and to help victims clear their names of any wrongdoing.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16), in a speech today on the House floor, paid tribute to American soldiers who gave what Abraham Lincoln called the "last full measure of devotion."
As Memorial Day approaches, Rep. Smucker said:
"I rise today to honor and remember those who fought and died for our freedom, to thank the brave men and women who today defend our freedom, and to recognize the sacrifice of their families."

Lawmakers from both sides of the Capitol and both sides of the aisle are pushing to require the Environmental Protection Agency to promote environmentally friendly water infrastructure.
The Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act, introduced in both the House and Senate, would require the EPA to conduct outreach and training on green infrastructure through its regional offices. It also would establish a new office in the EPA to assist cities and other local governments with technical issues in complying with the Clean Water Act.

With high school graduation season approaching, the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce last week passed the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act with unanimous support from Democrats and Republicans. The legislation, of which Republican Rep. Lloyd Smucker is an original co-sponsor, aims to help young people develop the skills and knowledge they need to compete for good-paying jobs.

It would be very easy to dismiss the modern-day KKK as a bunch of sheet-wearing miscreants who pump up their self-esteem by calling themselves "knights" and pretending they belong to something called the "True Invisible Empire."
Such flowery terms. Such delusions of grandeur. Such ingrained foolishness.
It also would be easy to make fun of their silly, pointed hats and the costumes that are meant to make them intimidating but only serve to mark them as cowards, unwilling to show their faces.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is standing with America's law enforcement. In recognition of National Police Week, Rep. Smucker signed on as a cosponsor to two bills to improve the mental health and wellness of police officers and to provide them with lifesaving equipment to better protect themselves and the communities they serve.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) is urging President Trump's administration to reject spending cuts to the Office of the National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in order to continue the fight against the heroin and opioid epidemic that has swept across Pennsylvania and the nation.

Lloyd Smucker wants answers. He's not alone. The freshman congressman addressed the Comey firing during the Rotary Club's question-and-answer session.
"It's certainly incumbent on Congress to be sure that the American public know what is happening in instances like this and that we uncover everything that can be uncovered," Smucker told about 150 people at the meeting.
