WASHINGTON – Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) called on congressional Democrats to work with Republicans to reopen the government. On Friday, September 19, 2025, Rep. Smucker and a majority of the House of Representatives voted in favor of a short-term continuing resolution to keep government funded through November 21, 2025, to allow for negotiations on full-year funding legislation.
WASHINGTON—Legislation introduced by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) has received approval in the House Ways and Means Committee and now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration.
Rep. Smucker’s Social Security Child Protection Act, Claiming Age Clarity Act, and the bipartisan Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, co-led with Reps. Vern Buchanan (FL-16) and Dwight Evans (PA-03), were advanced today during markup with strong bipartisan support.
Washington—Reps. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) and Don Beyer (VA-08), members of the House Ways and Means Committee, have introduced the Claiming Age Clarity Act to help seniors better understand how the timing of their decision to claim Social Security affects their monthly benefit.
The legislation would modernize the Social Security Administration’s terminology, so it more clearly explains how retirement age affects monthly benefits.

The Members write: “As the Senate considers changes, we remain unequivocal in our position that any additional tax cuts must be matched dollar-for-dollar by real, enforceable spending reductions. That union is the cornerstone of the House framework adopted in Section 4001 of H.Con.Res.

The bill would establish a new program that gives eligible workers access to portable, tax-advantaged retirement savings accounts.
