Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), Kurt Schrader (OR-05), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Mike Thompson (CA-05), Tim Walberg (MI-07), and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) have introduced the Medicare Enrollment Protection Act. This bipartisan legislation would help to protect seniors enrolling in Medicare Part B after COBRA coverage expiration from potential coverage gaps and late enrollment penalties.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) recently unveiled bipartisan legislation that would provide for a special enrollment period under Medicare for senior citizens enrolled in COBRA continuation coverage.
"I have been fighting for this change to make the enrollment process easier since coming to Congress," said Rep. Smucker on Monday. "I will work to secure support from my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and look forward to this bill's passage."

Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) introduced legislation to honor the life of Lancaster County World War II Veteran, and last known survivor of the Malmedy Massacre, Harold Billow, who passed away at the age of 99 earlier this year. Smucker's legislation would designate the Mount Joy Post Office Building as the "Harold Billow Post Office Building" in honor of Billow, a lifelong Mount Joy resident. Smucker's legislation was introduced with the support of the entire Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation.
