WASHINGTON, D.C. –Two pieces of bipartisan legislation sponsored by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) were adopted by the House Armed Services Committee during a markup of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 2500).
Congressman Smucker's Warrior Wellness Act (H.R. 1801) and Defense Small Business Advancement Act (H.R. 2974), were offered as amendments to the NDAA. The NDAA now proceeds to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, May 21, Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) and Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) introduced H.R. 2888 the Stop Student Debt Relief Scams Act, a bipartisan bill that would give the U.S. Department of Education and law enforcement agencies the tools needed to identify and shut down student debt relief scams. The bill also provides student loan exit counseling to inform federal loan borrowers about debt relief scams.
A group of Pennsylvania lawmakers led by Representative John Joyce (R., Pa.) sent a letter to Governor Tom Wolf Thursday urging him to dispatch the commonwealth's National Guard units to help address the overwhelming influx of asylum seekers arriving at the southern border.
Joyce and his fellow Republican lawmakers were moved to write the letter after hearing Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan testify Wednesday about the extent of the crisis at the border and the need for increased manpower to address it.
