Washington—Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee and a senior member of the Committee on Ways and Means, released the following statement: 

“The Senate’s passage of the amended House resolution is a critical step forward. However, with $5.8 trillion in costs and only $4 billion required savings in their instructions, I cannot vote for it. We can and must do better. Let’s come together next week to craft a fiscally responsible solution.”

This legislation will amend the nation’s tax code to ensure survivors of sexual abuse and unwanted and illegal sexual contact do not have to pay taxes on settlement income when they prevail legally against their abuser.
