Washington – Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) voted in favor of advancing H.R. 6655, A Stronger Workforce for America Act, during a meeting of the House Education and the Workforce Committee. The legislation was reported favorably with a 44-1 bipartisan vote.
Even though Liz Magill has resigned as University of Pennsylvania president, the school is still facing a congressional investigation prompted by her testimony before a House committee last week.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker and members of the House Budget Committee on Thursday approved legislation that would form a bipartisan commission to study cutting the national debt, which reached $34 trillion this week.
The bill, co-sponsored by Smucker and Maine Democrat Jared Golden, would charge the commission with drafting a plan by May 2025 to improve the federal government’s long-term fiscal stability and “propose recommendations designed to balance the budget at the earliest reasonable date.”

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – The Bench Mark Program on S. Prince St. in Lancaster has been helping at-risk youth for a decade, and its founder had the chance to go to Washington D.C. to talk about his mission.
“We are the navigators who help them get through probation, children and youth and get them to whatever their goals are,” Will Kiefer, founder and executive director, said.
The non-profit uses a family of mentors who use weight lifting, academics, and career coaching to propel at-risk youth toward success.
Washington – Legislation introduced by Reps. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11) and Terri Sewell (D-AL-7), and Senators John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) has been endorsed by AARP. The bipartisan and bicameral Retirement Savings for Americans Act (RSAA) continues to gain support.
