Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Lloyd Smucker voted against the House Democrats partisan 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The bill passed the House by a vote of 220 – 197.

Sharice Davids (D-KS) introduced legislation to eliminate all administrative fees on federal student loans, which would save students over $1.7 billion per year.

Congressman Smucker's Warrior Wellness Act (H.R. 1801) and Defense Small Business Advancement Act (H.R. 2974), were offered as amendments to the NDAA. The NDAA now proceeds to the full House of Representatives for consideration.

The bill also provides student loan exit counseling to inform federal loan borrowers about debt relief scams.

H.R. 2015, the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act would require call identity validation and cut down on spoofed calls.
The legislation would also increase civil penalties for robocallers, allowing the FCC to implement penalties of up to $10,000 per call for those who intentionally disregard telemarketing restrictions.
