Washington—Legislation introduced by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) to aid foster children, families, and child welfare agencies (CWAs) was advanced by the Ways and Means Committee today. Rep. Smucker’s legislation was included in the comprehensive and bipartisan Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act (H.R. 9076) which reauthorizes and reforms child welfare programs authorized under Title IV-B of the Social Security Act.

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker’s bipartisan bill to help low-income earners save for retirement has won the support of AARP, the nonprofit that bills itself as the largest advocacy organization for Americans ages 50 and over.
Smucker’s proposal would target low-income workers who don’t have access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan. These workers would be automatically enrolled in a federal-sponsored plan that takes 3% of their income and puts it into a savings account for their retirement, but participants can change their contribution rate.
Washington—Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), a senior member of the Committee on Ways and Means, the House of Representative’s chief tax-writing committee, voted in favor of the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which passed with a strong bipartisan vote of 357 to 70.
