WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lloyd Smucker joins Representatives Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Chellie Pingree (D-ME) to introduced the Interstate Milk Freedom Act (H.R. 5410) today. This bill prohibits federal interference with the interstate traffic of unpasteurized milk and milk products that are packaged for direct human consumption.
It's legal to drink raw milk in 50 states. It is legal to sell raw milk in 28 states. Congress has never passed a ban on raw milk. Yet, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) did so in capitulation to a lawsuit.
WASHINGTON [10/30/19] - Today, U.S. Reps. Angie Craig (MN-2) and Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) introduced the Responsible & Efficient Agriculture Destination (TREAD) Act to give farmers and ranchers more flexibility when transporting live animals and perishable goods.
On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 (the Farm Bill). U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.) voted in favor of the measure, which was approved by a 369-47 vote.
"This bill provides much-needed relief for our hardworking farmers to help them get through tough times," Smucker said. "Under this legislation, these hard workers who feed America will be better able to put food on their own tables, provide for their families and keep their farms up and running – and that's good for our economy and our country."
