Rep. Smucker: Biden’s Agenda is Driving America to Socialism

Biden Abandons Bipartisan Promise, Caves to Pelosi’s Progressives

WASHINGTON- Rep. Lloyd Smucker released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden's speech to a joint session of Congress:

"In his inauguration speech, President Biden promised to work with both Republicans and Democrats to help the American people and vowed to unify our nation. Instead, President Biden's actions have been solely motivated to appease the far-left flank of the Democrat party, to grow the size of the government, and consolidate its power. Republicans don't believe in big government, we believe in the American people.

His first 100 days have been marred by bitter partisanship driving our nation closer to a socialist's dream. He has broken his promise of governing from the middle and instead allows the socialists and far-left led by Speaker Pelosi and Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to re-write his agenda. The results are summed up as nearly $6 trillion in government spending and a looming tax hike on hardworking American families, all in the midst of a pandemic. The Democrats' plan to consolidate power to the government is clear, they want to make the American people dependent on big government. The American people, not Washington, should be in charge of their own lives.

Biden has masked his progressive proposals under the guise of COVID-19 relief or infrastructure spending, and only gives lip service to the concept of bipartisanship. If this is what President Biden considers working across the aisle, the American people do not have much hope for the next three and a half years.

Biden's lack of seriousness on immigration policy has been disastrous and his immediate repeal of President Trump's secure border policies has caused a humanitarian and national security crisis at our southern border. His administration may not like to face the facts, but the numbers of illegal encounters at the border do not lie. Last night, the President remarked that America is ‘on the move again'. Unfortunately, we are headed in the wrong direction. I encourage the president to reverse course and work with Republicans in earnest before he makes any more damaging decisions, especially as our fragile nation hopes to begin its recovery from the pandemic," said Smucker.
