Smucker Supports Spending Reduction and Border Security Act

Washington—Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) voted in favor of H.R. 5525, the Spending Reduction and Border SecurityAct. The measure failed.
“I voted to pay our troops, reduce government spending, secure our border, and create a bipartisan fiscal commission which I believe is a critical step to addressing America’s $33 trillion in debt. I remain committed to advancing these proposals.
It is hard to justify my Republican colleagues’ votes against this measure which advances key conservative priorities and moves our country in the right direction.” said Rep. Lloyd Smucker.
Rep. Smucker is a cosponsor of the bipartisan No Budget, No Pay Act, H.R. 5653, which would withhold salaries for Members of Congress in the event of a government shutdown or lapse in appropriations. Smucker believes that Members of Congress should not be paid if members of our United States Armed Forces are not being paid. Smucker will also instruct the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives to withhold his pay for the duration of a government shutdown.
