Smucker Responds to State of the Union Address

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) released the following statement in response to President Biden's State of the Union:

"Thanks to President Biden's policies, America faces an inflation crisis, an energy crisis, a crisis on our southern border and a global security crisis.

Our Commander-in-Chief offered no clear vision for how we stop authoritarian thug Vladimir Putin's aggression. Putin will only respond to strength, and right now, Ukraine is showing the world how strong they are. Their resilience against all odds is inspiring.

Our nation was founded on the principles of defending freedom. The United States must hold true to these ideals and step up to provide Ukraine with all of the military assistance they have requested to support their efforts to defend their homeland.

We can also start by making domestic energy production a national security priority. We must stop providing Putin funds to carry out this detestable invasion by stopping the importation and purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products.

It's clear to me the president doesn't understand the pain that his 40-year high inflation is causing to the American people and how his policies and trillions in spending have contributed to it. I have heard from thousands of constituents across Lancaster and York counties struggling with the higher cost of goods. Yet, Biden's solution is to double down and spend even more. He only pays lip service to securing our border and has no real plan to solve the crisis.

Last evening the American people heard a lot of talk from President Biden, but no solutions to the many crises that our nation faces. The American people deserve better," said Smucker.
