Smucker Opposes Democrats’ Failed Legislation

Washington, D.C. —Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) opposed H.R. 4346 and released the following statement:

"Congressional Democrats walked away from an opportunity to work collaboratively to advance legislation to keep America's competitive edge against China. Instead of working to responsibly promote domestic innovation and manufacturing, Democrats indulged their uncontained spending addiction and devised a corporate welfare scheme to shovel nearly $300 billion in taxpayer dollars to large multinational corporations. Reckless and unnecessary spending like this is what fueled our nation's sky-high inflation, and unfortunately under Democrat majorities our nation must brace for more. The goal of advancing this bill is to pave the way to pass legislation to raise job-killing taxes and enact the Green New Deal.

I will not vote to enable the passage of massive tax hikes on the American people who are already struggling under the weight of Biden's failing economy plagued by 40-year high inflation. Congress could have done much better than what was considered today, but under one-party leadership in Washington by the Democrats who refuse to acknowledge our economy is in a recession, the American people have become numb to the failures of President Biden and Speaker Pelosi to address the issues impacting their lives. The American people deserve better," said Smucker.
