Smucker Joins Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee

Washington, D.C. –Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) was recently named to the Trade Subcommittee of the House Committee on Ways & Means. Smucker continues to serve on the Worker & Family Support Subcommittee and as one of two Ways & Means Committee members designated to the House Committee on the Budget.
"Pennsylvania's 11thcongressional district is the top agricultural producing district in the state, and is home to a vibrant manufacturing base, both of which power our local economy. We are beginning to see the successes of the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA) and have a model for what successful free trade policy looks like. I look forward to championing free and fair trade to support our community and nation as a member of the Trade Subcommittee," said Smucker.
According to the International Trade Administration, Lancaster and York counties were responsible for approximately $2.6 billion in goods exports in 2020.
Background: The House Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee of the United States Congress and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee derives a large share of its jurisdiction from Article I, Section VII of the U.S. Constitution which declares, "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives." The Committee has six subcommittees: Health, Oversight, Social Security, Select Revenue Measures, Trade, and Worker and Family Support. Noted Lancastrian and Member of Congress, Thaddeus Stevens served as Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means for the 37th and 38th Congresses from 1861-1865.
