Smucker: “Congress Needs to Get Its Fiscal House in Order”

December 2, 2021

Washington, D.C. –Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 6119, the Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2022.

"Democrats in Congress, once again, have shirked their responsibility to engage in good faith negotiations to fund the government. Instead, they have kicked the can down the road with a Continuing Resolution (CR). Democrats have spent all year trying to move a multi-trillion dollar tax-and-spending spree and they have failed to perform their duty of reliably funding the government.

Democrats continue to ignore the crisis raging at our southern border by failing to boost border security. They continue to ignore the inflation crisis or work to improve our supply chains while Americans pay more. They continue to fail to protect patients and are standing idly by as drastic Medicare cuts are set to go into effect on January 1. And perhaps worst, this legislation does not block the Biden administration from spending money to push unnecessary and unconstitutional vaccine mandates.

As I have said consistently throughout my career, Congress needs to get its fiscal house in order and stop recklessly spending taxpayer's dollars," said Rep. Smucker.
