Smucker Backs Budget Resolution

Lauded as “Key Architect” of Measure
Washington—Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), the Vice Chair of the House Committee on the Budget, released the following statement after voting in favor of the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2025 during consideration in the House:
“This budget resolution will help make America great again. It will prevent tax hikes on hardworking families and small businesses, secure our borders, invest in our national security, unleash American energy, and cut government waste. There is much more hard work in the weeks ahead but this is one more step towards advancing the mandate that President Trump received from the American people.”
In introducing Rep. Smucker to speak in favor of the budget resolution, House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Jodey Arrington (TX-19) lauded Rep. Smucker as a “key architect” of the budget measure. Chairman Arrington also noted that “nobody made a greater contribution than our Vice Chairman (Smucker)” during committee passage of the legislation.
Rep. Smucker’s remarks as prepared for delivery are below:
“Mr. Speaker, we have heard of how this “big, beautiful” budget resolution will deliver tax relief to working- and middle-class families, put a stop to crime and drugs flooding over our southern border, and jumpstart the American economy.
Unfortunately, we have also heard a lot of falsehoods from my colleagues on the other side of the aisle.
Let me set the record straight.
The House Republican Budget will stop a 22 percent tax hike for the average taxpayer, put $1,700 back into the pockets of a median family of four, and prevent the Child Tax Credit from being cut in half for 40 million families.
This bill doesn’t take from the working class, it puts money in their pockets!
And while my colleagues on the other side try to drown out these facts with tired talking points and fearmongering, let’s ask the American people directly: how does a 22 percent tax hike help you pay your bills?
Families, how does taking $1,700 out of your pocket and cutting your child tax credit help you raise your kids?
It doesn’t! And Republicans are working to stop those tax hikes by passing this budget resolution.
President Trump was elected by the working class, and this budget will deliver on the promises he made to them.
I am proud to support this budget resolution, and urge my colleagues to vote yes.
Thank you, and I yield back.”
