Rev. Sam Smucker Delivers Opening Prayer on House Floor

April 10, 2018

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker's (PA-16) older brother, Reverend Sam Smucker, was today's guest chaplain in the U.S. House of Representatives and delivered the opening prayer prior to floor proceedings.

"Sam is a true servant leader," said Rep. Smucker. "Many in our community have relied on his spiritual guidance throughout their lives – our family included. I'm remarkably proud of the extraordinary work Sam has done to make our community a better place and to spread the word of God. It's an honor to have him as today's guest chaplain."

LNP wrote about Rev. Smucker in May 2017. You can read that story about him here.

As a House member, Rep. Smucker has the opportunity to sponsor guest chaplains through the Office of the Chaplain. An official request is sent to the House Chaplain, where the request is accommodated at the earliest possible date. The House Chaplain then sends an invitation to the guest chaplain with a date and an outline of procedures for the day. Read more about sponsoring a guest chaplain here.

Following the prayer by Rev. Sam Smucker, Rep. Lloyd Smucker delivered a speech honoring his brother and welcoming his five other brothers visiting Washington, D.C.
