Rep. Smucker Statement on Senate Gun Control Legislation

Washington, DC -- Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) released the following statement after opposing S. 2938:

"I opposed the legislation because I have deep concerns it would infringe upon the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands of law-abiding gun owners in Pennsylvania's 11th Congressional District. I supported and continue to support efforts to provide funds for school safety and mental health resources, which were included in H.R. 7966, the Secure Every School and Protect our Nation's Children (STOP II) Act offered by Rep. Hudson. I believe that we ought to work to keep firearms out of the hands of those who would do harm to themselves or others. However, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and this legislation would infringe on an individual's rights. I will continue to protect the Second Amendment rights of my constituents," said Smucker.
