Washington, D.C. – The House Education and the Workforce Committee, during a markup of the PROSPER Act, unanimously agreed to U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker’s (PA-16) amendment that would help higher education institutions combat the opioid epidemic on their campuses.
Washington, D.C. – Today, President Trump signed into law the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY18 which included U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker’s (PA-16) amendment to expand opportunities for active-duty military men and women to learn career skills and occupational training. This expansion will assist them in their transitions back to civilian life.
In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the Higher Education Act — a pillar of his domestic agenda intended to “strengthen the educational resources of our colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary and higher education.”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Reps. Lloyd Smucker (PA-16) and Charlie Dent (PA-15) are teaming up to bring attention and aid to local school districts dealing with the substantial influx of Puerto Rican students displaced by Hurricane Maria. Reps. Smucker and Dent wrote to House Speaker Paul Ryan and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi calling for additional disaster funding for these school districts.
In the letter, Reps. Smucker and Dent said:
Washington, DC – Today, as leading American manufactures continue to design, develop, and unveil commercially-available electric trucks, U.S. Reps. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA), Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA), Peter DeFazio (D-OR), and Rodney Davis (R-IL) announced bipartisan legislation (H.R. 4421) that would allow the testing of trucks powered by electric batteries. Federal law caps the weight limit on trucks at 80,000 pounds.

“When I traveled to Israel in August, I met with Prime Minister Netanyahu and had a discussion about moving the United States embassy to Jerusalem. The city is at the core of the nation’s foundation and history. President Trump’s decision to move our embassy is the right one. I will continue to support and defend our decades-old friendship and strengthen our alliance.”
