Smucker Votes "No" on Omnibus Spending Bill

March 22, 2018
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker released the following statement after he voted against the omnibus spending bill – the Consolidated Appropriations Act – on the House floor:

“I made a commitment to my constituents that I would work to break Washington’s addiction to spending. That’s why I voted against the omnibus spending bill today. I support a number of provisions included in the legislation, like funding our military, advancing our fight against the opioid epidemic, agricultural reforms, and commonsense school safety measures. But these priorities can be achieved in a fiscally responsible manner and without growing the size of the federal government. Furthermore, members had only hours to review a 2,000-plus page spending bill crafted in a process seriously lacking transparency. This is no way to govern responsibly.”
